Our Story

In the words of the late, great Admiral James Stockdale; Who am I?  Why am I here?  Like a lot of bands, Stolen Gold was born from the ashes of other bands whose fate was settled when certain bandmates for one reason or another decided to go their separate ways. We wish them all the best! The most recent “predecessor” band was Swimming with the Nudes (don’t ask!). Our drummer decided he needed to spend more time with work and family. Time passed, we met George who just happened to be a drummer and Stolen Gold was born. The story doesn’t end there as SWTN evolved from a confluence of events, a touch of serendipity, and, as always, other bands. Working Man’s Blues Band ran into the usual “creative differences” losing its funk while becoming defunct. The bass guitar man of WMBB, we call him J.D., became a founding member of SWTN. Hundred Weight Band was the other direct predecessor of SWTN contributing a vocalist, John, and vocalist/guitar, Steve. Somewhere along the way we found Aaron, guitar, and he looks a lot like Steve (his father).

Over the years, all of the bands that came before enjoyed much success in Las Vegas (Aaron in Albuqueque).  Some of the highlights include playing the Santa Run on Fremont Street several times and what an experience it was to play to thousands of crazy people, all dressed as Santa Claus.   Along with lots of other great bands, we played the Nevada Wild Fest at the Rio Hotel in the fall of 2012.  The band played a series of legendary gigs at Hammer’s in Henderson that we’ll never forget (Mr. Hammer’s ears are still ringing).  Anyway, enough with the nostalgia! As the Stolen Gold Band we’re looking forward to rocking your world!

John, Vocals
John is originally from Memphis, Tennessee and moved to Las Vegas in 2002 for the second time.  Around 2007, he joined the Hundred Weight Band as a vocalist, his first band ever!  The nucleus of Hundred Weight went on to form Swimming with the Nudes Band and now here we are with Stolen Gold.  John enjoys many different genres of music and often helps the band choose the next song to learn.  Sometimes the guys listen to his song choices and agree but other times, much to his chagrin, they say what…lol??  Anyway, it’s all in good fun and part of the creative process if you will…

Steve, Guitar and Vocals
Steve started playing guitar 37 minutes after the Beatles' first Ed Sullivan show. He has played and sung every great rock song since then in at least a dozen bands. He is also guilty of playing occasional Blues, Country and R&B. He has completely disproved all rock legends regarding fame, wealth and groupies. Steve is still deriving joy from playing good music.

Aaron, Guitar
Aaron grew up listening to his dad play old Classic Rock; he slept through many late-night practice sessions. He learned guitar partly by osmosis with some real lessons along the way. Aaron plays lead on all songs newer than 1980 and still hopes for some measure of fame, wealth and groupies.

George, Drums
George is from Philadelphia and at the age of 14, after trying many instruments including guitar and piano he settled on drums. His parents bought him a used Slingerland drum set and the rest is history. George’s early influences included Kiss, Beatles, Cheap Trick, Hall and Oates and many more. George played in a succession of bands throughout high school and college including the legendary band High-Five in Walla Walla Washington. George found his way to Las Vegas and now is a proud founding member of the Stolen Gold Band!

JD, Bass Guitar
JD has been playing bass for over 20 years. A rocker at heart, he likes to play everything with a certain high-energy intensity.  Originally from San Jose, Ca, JD earned his chops playing covers in garages and dive bars in Northern California, Austin, TX and Las Vegas.  Formerly with the Working Man Blues Band and Swimming With the Nudes, JD now solidifies the bottom end for Stolen Gold.
